Claims of activity:

The clients are in the middle of a full home remodeling project which has seemed to spark some energy and activity. The home dates back to 1890 and has its share of memories. As the remodeling continued, energy seemed to increase and the client found an old hat nailed inside one of the walls that was being ripped out. With an interesting series of events, the client happened to stumble upon the Wayland Paranormal truck and stopped us, seeking our help.

The superstition of the hat nailed into the wall is actually quite an interesting act that was common around the late 1800’s. People believed that objects absorbed people’s energy as they were used or worn and that by placing them inside a wall of their home, preferably close to the entrance way, that this would thereby repel any other spirits that were looking to inhabit a residence. In other words, they were imprinting their energy into the structure, claiming it as theirs, and making it clear to others. Usually the objects placed are shoes or trinkets, but hats are also common.

The clients seemed a little more at ease with this explanation, and they have decided to return the hat and nail it back into the wall as they complete their remodeling.

The Stone Tape Theory speculates that inanimate materials can absorb energy from living beings. In other words a ‘recording’ or track is laid down during moments of high emotion, or even repetitive mannerisms.  This stored energy can consequently be released, resulting in a display of the recorded activity. The replay can take the form of a full manifestation or partial sounds such as voices or footsteps. Paranormal investigators commonly refer to such phenomena as residual hauntings.

We found a lot of this particular type of energy in what we had deemed the “hat room”. These clips all occurred within the span of one hour, and nothing more. The very last one in this series shows the footsteps and sounds fading away. After this, numerous hours were recorded with not one single sound in this room. We compared all the other audio devices that were recording and we documented our exact locations and we also documented the fact that we were all sitting and not walking or moving during this time. You will hear some muffled voices in some of the clips, and that was indeed the group conducting the investigation from another room.

An interesting fact to state is that this room is missing half the floor and is just beams at this time.

Another interesting event that we were not able to either classify as paranormal or debunk is a series of knocks at the kitchen door while we were investigating. This happened several times and always sounded the same, which makes it impossible to classify either way. We just don't know on this one. This happened 5 different times.

This next clip was captured on a static recorder we placed in the kitchen. You will hear us talking as we are working and then you will hear a deep male voice. We are unsure what is said.

This clip, we are also unsure of, we think it says "bing" or something close to that. We are on the other side of the house at this time (you can hear us distantly) and this loud voice shows up out of nowhere.

Our conclusion on this investigation is twofold. First, we feel there is a lot of residual energy in the home and the fact that they are remodeling, this is releasing a lot of the stored energy. This is not something that is bad by any means, and they may not even notice it. But we did our best to explain how this energy seemingly works and that it is nothing that will either harm them or even interact with them. We did seem to think that there was an intelligent spirit that was interacting as well, and due to the claims and through our discussion, the clients do have their theory on who this may be and why this occurred.
We have been invited back as the remodeling continues to see what other residual and/or other activity we can document.
